Meet My Featured Friend – Dan Sorensen

Dan has been a friend of Craig & I for many, many years. He is a master carpenter/finisher and a part of our family. We’ve worked on a ton of projects together from full houses, four season porches, to almost all of our flip homes. More recently Dan helped Craig & I restore our most important flip home, Flip #5 of the 8 that were completed in 6 years. This flip would become our dream home. It was a foreclosure that had been completely stripped. The three of us spent 7 months restoring this house and turning it into our future home. Only 4 days were taken off.  A pretty daunting task- work was needed in every area.  Good things were happening! We encountered many trying situations. Some things were done 2-3 times over… many proud moments and so many good memories that my heart just swells thinking back. All of this meant the world to me because this would be our last  home. Hours of contemplating every area and the best part yet- the laughter that came out the funniest stuff. Flipping houses is so much harder than building a house because you weren’t there for every step as it was started. With surprises in the walls, unanswered questions and redoing things that weren’t done how we would have originally done them- it was an absolute labor of love. Funny fact about Dan, in the 7 months of this flip he gained 16 pounds… sorry Dan!.. .also Dan ALWAYS played KQ92 and we all got pretty good at his “name that song & artist game”. One song in particular he will NEVER let me live down- this will remain a secret.
The goal we had as we started this project was to split it into stages- getting it to where we could move in, but still having quite a bit to accomplish after the move. There’s a point you never think that you’re ever going to finish. I give Dan a lot of credit especially for 2 things- he has seen me at my absolute worst and everything In between- and he’s still my friend lol!! And everyone knows that there are days with Craig & I on site- that you might want to hide! One day Dan so eloquently said “ It has been amazing to watch you two make literally a thousand decisions in such a short time and see it all come so beautifully together” What an incredible compliment to Craig & I.
I will be posting pictures of this flip in the coming week so be sure to visit me often <3
Dan does impeccable work, has the patience of an angel ,a great dog named Jackson, amazingly quick witted and ladies, he is AVAILABLE : ) Here is a recipe that is a favorite of Dan’s:
Aunt Ruby’s Pumpkin Chiffon Pie

  • 3 eggs, separated
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1 ¼ cups canned pumpkin

Combine gelatin, brown sugar, salt and all the spices in a 2 quart saucepan. Blend the egg yolks with the milk and stir into the gelatin mixture. Cook, stirring constantly until the mixture comes to a boil. Remove from the heat & stir in the pumpkin. Refrigerate until mixture thickens slightly. Beat egg whites until frothy, gradually beat in sugar until soft peaks form. Fold pumpkin into egg whites. Spoon into crust. Refrigerate until firm, 4 hours or overnight. Serve with sweetened whipped cream.
